JIM VENSEL ACCEPTS KIWANIS CLUB OF OKEECHOBEE AWARD - 11/01/2017

DIVISION AWARD: Division 16 was presented an award for being the "Most Improved Diviison" at the District Convention. Lt Gov Suzy Hutchenson attended our meeting on Oct 5, to congratulate Past Lt Gov Jim Vensel and to install him as Lt Gov Elect. Congratulations Jim! 


2017 ANNUAL INSTALLATION BANQUET - 10/01/2017

INSTALLATION BANQUET: The installation banquet on Sept 23, was a Hollywood Nights theme and was a great event. Guests entered on a red carpet and had a photo op with Hollywood background. The meal was catered by Golden Corall and was delicious with beef, shrimp, or chicken. Lt Gov Jim Vensel installed the incoming officers, and Pres Terry Burroughs presented gifts and awards to several members who provided special service to the Club. Thanks to Maureen Burroughs for organzing the event and for the wonderful decorations, and to Heather's daughters (Madison & Morgan) for their help as the official photographers! 


OKEECHOBEE KIWANIS PARK CONTINUES TO GROW - 09/01/2017

KIWANIS PARK BENCHES: The park benches have arrived and will be installed immediately. Watch for a dedication ceremony soon. Thanks to the Thogersen family for the donation!  


REAL LIFE CHILDRENS RANCH ANNUAL SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE - 08/01/2017

REAL LIFE SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE: Our annual project for school supplies for RLCR will be held on Aug 3. Once again two members have challenged us to raise $2,000 and they will match that amount. Please consider a generous donation to help us meet this $4,000 gift to RLCR. Also consider a few school supplies for the presentation. Make your check to either Real Life Children's Ranch or Kiwanis Club of Okeechobee Foundation for your tax deductable gift.


GRAD NIGHT ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL YEAR - 07/01/2017

GRAD NIGHT: Grad night was once again a huge success. This year the hours were revised and prizes began at 2:00 AM. Many of teachers were concerned with the graduates leaving at 4 or 5 AM, that they were too tired to drive home and felt this was a saftey issue. We supported Grad Night with a $1,000 donation and several volunteers.


SCHOLARSHIP NIGHT 2017 - 06/01/2017

SCHOLARSHIPS: We presented two $500 scholarships at OHS Scholarship Night. Our recipents were: Shytria Ash: 4.57 weighted avg GPA and 3.73 unweighted, 1200 0n SAT, top 5% of class, long term goal is to become a medical doctor; and Yessica Hernandez-Acevedo: 3.92 weighted avg GPA, 3.66 unweighted, 1000 on SAT, plan is to major in photography. $255,000 in local scholarships was awarded to 119 students. There were 104 donors to the local scholarships.


NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER/SPECIAL PROGRAM IN MAY - 04/03/2017

NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER/SPECIAL PROGRAM: May 4, is National Day and a special program provided by Red Larson. The Board has decided to have our regular noon meeting for this special guest. Members can choose to attend our meeting or the Day of Prayer. The Club will provide a pizza lunch for the Day of Prayer as we have for several years. RADIO AUCTION - 03/01/2017

RADIO AUCTION: The Radio Auction was held on Feb 25, and went very smoothly. The gross should be around $7,000 with net profit of about $6,000. We appreciate all the businesses that donated items and gift certificates. MINI GRANT PRESENTATION - 02/01/2017

MINI GRANT PRESENTATION: The Okeechobee Educational Foundation presented the teacher mini grants on Jan 25. $16,125 was presented to assist teachers in their classrooms. We gave $4,000 in grants (with the state match). The Dick and Marge Blair Math Mini Grants of $1,000 were presented to RaeAnn Whiteside of Central and Jenni Ellis of South. Four $500 mini grants were given to RaeAnn Whiteside, Melissa Brady of Everglades, Elizabeth Stanley of North, and Ashley Starr of Yearling Middle. SALVATION ARMY KETTLE DRIVE - 01/02/2017

SALVATION ARMY KETTLE DRIVE: Again this year we took a full day at Walmart rigining the bell for the Salvation Army Kettle drive. We raised $675 for the day. All of this money will used in Okeechobee to help those in need. A special thanks to everyone for ringing and especially those who brought family members and those who took extra "shifts".
